Our Story

Bellingham Tonight was born out of the desire to bring more local content to our community. We saw that many important stories weren’t being told—or if they were, they were often overlooked.

In 2019, the team at Veritas Media started thinking seriously about how we could create more opportunities for important community conversations to happen. With an election coming up later in the year, we decided the time was right to do something.

Our initial ideas of helping to host a political forum quickly morphed into a full-bore talk show filmed in front of an audience. We were fortunate to have the passionate support of Kevin Coleman and Kristina Michele who provided immense energy and a drive to make this show a reality and became our first revered co-hosts.

We knew we needed support from our community to make this show possible and we were blown away with the help we received from local businesses. See all of our Season 1 sponsors here (we love you all!).

In the three episodes produced during the first season, we explored Whatcom elections, the 2019 mayoral candidates, Bellingham’s identity and how different organizations are addressing homelessness in Bellingham.

We also saw a huge lack of coverage in high school sports, so we experimented with adding in a sports segment and partnered with Tyler Anderson of WhatcomPreps.com. Clearly, our community wanted more coverage, and after our interview with Ferndale High School’s Gerrian Hatchett we planned to launch a weekly sports show.

Season 2 of Bellingham Tonight was slated for April 2020 but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our team quickly pivoted to publishing relevant stories that are informative, encouraging and helpful. These videos are released nightly and have already garndered tens of thousands of views. The new segment is called Bellingham Now and it’s been rewarding to see the impact these videos have made on our local businesses, nonprofits, and frontline workers.

As we navigate the uncertain times of COVID-19 we will be there to support our community and tell your stories. We will encourage conversation and dialogue as we work through this together.

Our team is excited to build on this platform’s success and continue to provide meaningful, authentic community content.
